Katy Perry..........................Katy Perry original name Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, (born October 25 1984 Santa Barbara California U.S.) American pop singer who gained fame for a string of anthemic and often sexually suggestive hit songs as well as for a playfully cartoonish sense of style. Perry's efforts to achieve popularity in the mainstream were unsuccessful. Prior to any new music was released the two major labels signed, then removed Perry. Capitol Records however released Perry's EP Ur So Gay in 2007. The title track was a jolly and sly single that garnered little or no notice. "I Kissed" a Girl was a more assertive ode sexism with a sharp edged electronic-pop beat. It was a controversial song in that critics had criticized it for encouraging relationships with a partner and others claimed that the song depicted a racy scene that enticed men's fantasies about sexuality in women. I Kissed a Girl, an enthralling combination of sexual satire with a sophisticated tune, allowed I Kissed a Girl to become a hit number one across the world and boost the sales of her album One of the Boys. With its bouncy sharp-tongued second single Hot N Cold also proving to be a hit, the album that Perry wrote herself eventually registered greater than three million copies in the United States.
